Nancy Duarte - Achieving a successful presentation

What makes a presentation boring/irritating

  • The person presenting was so boring.
  • He had no expression in his face or voice.
  • The topic he was talking about was boring.
  • He didn’t make sense of what to do when giving us a task.

 Ideas the class thought about:

  • Can’t see the screen – text, lighting, focus.
  • Know/doesn’t know material – by heart, rehearsals, walk through, confidence, style of expression, monotone.
  • Volume of info per slide, volume of information/slide
  • On topic/off topic
  • Make your presentation into a story
  • The audience you are presenting to are the hero you are helping.
  • Presentations have a shape?

Nancy Duarte about achieving a successful presentation

  • Tell the audience what is
  • What could be?
  • Structure (beginning, middle and end).
  • Don’t talk all the time.
  • Laughing, clapping
  • Enthusiasm
  • Create unforgettable moments
  • Finish/start with a Brainy quote
  • Key words repeat
  • Metaphors/visual words
  • Fundamental information that relates the audience together
  • Music of the presentation
  • Rhythm
  • Musical/poetic references
  • Likable hero
  • Encounters
  • Emerges transformed
