Summarising

Summarising is a useful technique on shortening a long piece of text in words which you can understand.

Tips on how to summarise:

• Read the full passage to make sure you know what the passage is going on about.
• Underlining key words or phrases.
• List all the key words/phrases.
• Write the key information in a few simple sentences which gathers all the information.

Example of summarising a newspaper article:

The author of this article wants its readers to understand that Jeremy Corbyn is disloyal to his Queen and country and continues on explaining how Corbyn showed up to the remembrance ceremony with an unmatching suit and an unbuttoned shirt.
