Tips on how to concentrate when reading

Read where friends, music, noise, etc. will not be distracting.
Read when you are alert.
Limit reading sessions to realistic amounts of time/pages.
Switch back and forth from reading to other study activities or tasks.

Turn chapter headings/subheadings into questions. Then search for answers.

Mark text information that answer the questions. Be an active reader.

Pause frequently to summarise/restate ideas. Use your own words.

Techniques for effective reading with concentration

1. Cut out the noise - Make sure you are in a quiet area where there are no distractions to stop you from concentrating on the book you are reading.

2. Structure your environment - Make sure you are not facing any potential distractions such a mobile phones. This can have an ability to focus.

3. Clarify objectives - Make sure your goal/objective is clear otherwise it will be very difficult to focus.

4. Set a deadline - Set a time you want to finish reading and have a break once you have reached your deadline.

5. Isolate yourself  - Isolating yourself is useful when you want to get some reading down because then you are clear of any distrations.

6. Healthy body, sharper mind - If you allow yourself to get enough sleep you will be able to focus more on the tasks ahead which will make it better quality, try to have a healthy diet because then you will be able to have higher levels of concentration when reading.
